| This is Tom Green's first 'solo'
movie, and very likely his last. Directed and starred by the infamous
Tom Green himself, the entire movie is basically just an extension of skits
from his MTV show. There really isn't a plot to speak of, and Green plays
a character that is so obnoxious, that even you in the audience
sympathize with the characters he interacts with onscreen. The
entire movie is a huge joke, except this time around the joke is on you.
On you for watching it, and on the studio, for getting tricked into funding
it.
There are quite a few funny scenes, which are done in amazingly bad
taste. Probably the most notable is when Green's character helps give
birth to a child. Yikes! You'll know what I'm talking about when
you watch it.
I don't know if it's fair to make the comparison, but Tom Green has been
likened to a neo-Andy Kaufman, insofar that the meat of his comedy is in
pissing the audience off. If you're able to step back enough from the
movie and laugh at yourself for getting mad, then this is a fairly good
movie. If you're someone who is offended by the most bizarre and
disgusting things you can get away with putting on a movie, then it's best
to steer clear of this one entirely.
If you get this movie, be sure to get the DVD version and listen to Tom's
director's commentary. It explains a lot about what was going through
his mind when he made the movie, and basically he admits to creating the
entire thing as a joke, and to see if he could fool the studio into funding
it.
At one point early in the movie, Green's character is showing off some of
his cartoon sketches to an industry mogul. He says to Tom "These are
just stupid and disjointed scenes, what is happening in these strips, it
makes no sense! It's not even funny!". Indeed. :)
