A surrealistic and insightful
view into video game addiction, Lucky Wander Boy is a terrific first novel
by author D.B. Weiss. I read through it twice to pick up on all the
subtleties and undercurrents; the book is quite deep beneath the surface.
Although fans of video game emulation and 80's home arcade machines will
appreciate the book more, there's enough meat here for readers of any level
to enjoy. Weiss explores the moments of decision and opportunity that
we all face in our life. What if we could make different choices?
What if we could simply restore from a save point previous in our life and
explore a different path? Yet above all that, why is Japanese culture
so damn smooth, and where can we find the rarest and coolest ROMs available
for download? Questions.. questions..
Although the ending may come across as too surrealistic and open ended
for many people (I felt the same way the first time I read it), upon
reflection, it could scarcely have ended any other way. I thoroughly
enjoyed it.
