I think I probably liked the
second book of the series just a little bit more than the first, and for a
couple reasons. In the first book, much time was spent setting up the
fundamentals, and introducing the main characters. The second book
builds on this and really begins to flesh them out, including spending
plenty of time getting to know a lot of the more interesting companions of
Rand.
The deal this time is that Rand and his friends, under the guidance of
the enigmatic Moraine Sedai (a woman magic user), find the legendary Horn of
Valere, which will call forth the warriors of the dead in order to fight in
the coming Armageddon. Wielded by either good or evil, the horn would
ensure total victory, so of course you gotta be expecting it when it gets
stolen out of Rand's hands.
Like the first book, the ending to this book is very satisfying and will
leave you aching to read the next one.
