Finally Rand Al'Thor comes to
terms with his true nature! Haunted by his past and by his destiny, Rand
strikes out blindly and desperately, securing the powerful sword Callendor--
an artifact from the age of legends capable of amplifying a person's
strength to near god-like levels. Of course getting there is the
story.
Much more is revealed about the nature of the Dark One and Rand's
predestined role to stop him, but the book also spends plenty of time
detailing Rand's companions, who seemingly enough, are due to play a very
important role in the upcoming battle against evil. Mat and Perrin are
very realistically portrayed, each with unique and interesting
personalities. Mat is a rebellious gambler, while Perrin is the
steadfast blacksmith's son who takes responsibility seriously. While
neither particularly desire to be near Rand any longer, due to the trouble
he always seems to find himself in, they continue to find themselves
mysteriously drawn to him in some yet unknown way.
