Unfortunately, I think out of all
the books so far, I liked this one the least. Which is not to say it
isn't a good book, but let's be honest here-- sometimes this one really
drags on and on.
It's extremely lengthy, and there's plenty of trite dialog, which while
perhaps is realistic, doesn't make for fantastic reading. There's only
so many times you can read about women scolding men, and men joking among
themselves about women, before you start groaning out loud while reading the
book. Come on Jordan, you've used the phrase "Box your ears"
approximately 932 times in one book, don't you think that's a little
extreme?
This book continues the tradition of having a bazillion different
characters, each with their own separate plot lines, but nothing much
happens up until the last 200 pages, where it really starts to get
interesting.
Rand has almost the entirety of the Aiel nation supporting him, with the
exception of a rogue faction which denounces him as an outsider. It's
up to Rand and Mat to stop them from their rampage of destruction, and along
the way they fight a forsaken, a powerful evil-dude, too. Just for
fun, I guess. (nothing wrong with that!)
In other news, there is dissention among the White Tower, the elite home
of women magic-users. It's satisfying to read them bickering and
fighting among themselves, because man, are they ever annoying. I hope
Rand kicks their asses just for the heck of it in a later book~!
I've recently started reading book six, and so far, it seems to be one of
the best of the series yet, so fans of the series are going to have to tough
this one out, I think ;b
