Planet Dognine Reviews
Wheel of time : Winter's Heart
 |
Readers have been increasingly frustrated
by Robert Jordan's pattern of attack with his last few installments of the series.
As someone who was a latecomer to the series, I read books one through eight in quick
succession, and I was all too quick to agree. I can sympathise with his Tolkein-esque
character and world buildup, and I can also feel the pain of other fans who feel betrayed
by the bleak nothingness that it has entailed. Like a crazed madman wandering around
in an elaborate world of his own creation, Jordan never seems to get anywhere, and the
rest of us are getting tired of the scenery.
All that aside, I took a six month break from the series and came to read book nine. I think
the time away did me some good, or else the series picked up a bit in this title. Rand
finally accomplishes some lasting goodness, we see a little of Mat Cauthon again,
and some of the cliched character traits seem to have fallen by the wayside.
I'm waiting for book 10 to come out on paperback before I purchase it, but for the longest
time in a long while, I'm anxiously looking forward to reading the next in the series.
