What is the Planet Dognine?
Where did the name Planet Dognine come from?
- The term Planet Dognine comes from
Nicki's childhood nickname given by her troublemaking brother.
Who owns this website?
- The domain name, Planetdognine.com was
registered VIA Internic, and paid for in complete by Matt and Nicki.
We firmly assert that all content is Copyrighted by us. Currently the
domain is registered through Dotster which is cheaper, offers better domain
management options, and doesn't suck quite as badly as Internic.
How did you come up with the idea for a
website?
- It all started when we bought our digital
camera. Matt had the idea of creating an electronic photo album in
order to keep in touch with family and friends. Although the original
conception was to create an album-on-CD-ROM, it was quickly realized that by
by cataloguing the photos in a universal format such as HTML, the photo
album could be easily ported to CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, floppy, or even the
Internet.
Recent additions like the forum, while not exactly portable to CD-ROM, further
enhance the sense of a virtual community.
Unfortunately, new multi-mega pixel cameras have pushed the size of Planet
Dognine far beyond the capacity of a standard CD-ROM. Perhaps a DVD
burner is in order..?
What type of
Software/hardware/equipment/toothpaste are you guys using?
- The original photos were from a Sony Mavica FD-88
purchased at Best Buy. It is
capable of taking JPEG images up to 1280x960 [4::3] in size and multimedia
MPEG videos up to 320x200 in size. Most photos (were) taken in 640x480
mode, then resized to 300x240. The media is an internal 4X floppy
drive which provides plentiful and extraordinarily cheap 'film'.
October 2001, we purchased a Toshiba PDR-M71 and a 64MB smart media card.
Recently, we purchased an additional 128MB media card.
It takes four rechargeable 1600mAh AA batteries, which lasts about two hours.
It is capable of taking photos up to 2048x1536. As with the Mavica, it can record full motion video and
sound, which doubles as a camcorder.
Some of the newer photos are taken with an Olympus.
- The web server is running a carefully tuned
Windows NT 2003, IIS 6.0 machine. The site is hosted through pd9hosting.com.
- Software & tools used in the editing process include: Adobe Photoshop 7.0, CuteFTP, Windows Scripting
Host, Textpad. The
panoramic images were created using Photovista, from Live
Picture.
- Mentadent
and Crest tartar control.
Update: 10/26/99
I no longer use Mentadent. It's too expensive and the dispenser is
awkward. I'm currently using a trial tube of Colgate.
Update: 11/16/99
Colgate ran out. Now using a free tube of Enamelon.
Supposed to help "rebuild enamel", but it tastes kind of funky so
I doubt I will refresh my supplies once they are depleted.
Update: 2/1/2000
Enamelon is disgusting. I am now using Crest tartar control. Never before have I
tasted such delicious, minty delights. Every night, I eagerly
anticipate brushing my teeth-- I hold myself back, pacing myself, but I can
wait no longer. They are so white, I often have to close my mouth when
getting my picture taken. My breath revitalizes dead plants, mortally
wounded animals, and cures cancer. I can defy the laws of physics. I am
immortal.
What in the world is MegaBBS
- It's a message forum for ASP that I wrote.
Now it's used by people all over the world, including governments, universities,
and especially personal homepages like this. There are other people working on it too, now!
Someday we'll port it to ASP.NET
